Key Security#

If you use out WebClient ( monocles.chat ), the keys you use with it are being stored on our servers.

For added security and privacy, we recommend self-custody of your keys using the monocles chat App or any other XMPP - client supporting PGP/MIME and/or OMEMO.#

The monocles chat App does not store keys on our servers and only stores keys on your device.

Wiping#
Wiping is an Intent - not something that can be forced upon the recipient!#

Servers and Clients on both ends can disregard or ignore that request and still log and save everything sent to them.

  • This is sadly not fixable by the protocol or the client!

  • Monocles will however will delete the locally stored / cached messages on your end and on the monocles chat Server!

Correcting Messages#
Correcting Messages is an Intent - not something that can be forced upon the recipient!#

Correcting / Changing a Message is not supported unless explicitly enabled!

  • This is sadly not fixable by the protocol or the client!

  • Monocles will however will change the locally stored / cached messages on your end and on the monocles chat Server!
